New York state tourism website launches 1st fall foliage report of season

ALBANY, N.Y. — The state’s tourism office has launched the season’s first fall foliage map that provides updated information on where the autumn colours are emerging across New York.

The Empire State Development Division of Tourism posted its first fall foliage report Wednesday on the I Love New York website. The initial reports from field observers say fall colours are beginning to appear in the Adirondacks and the Thousand Islands-St. Lawrence Seaway and Catskills regions.

Updated reports will be posted every Wednesday afternoon.

According to statistics released by Empire State Development at a workshop in New York City earlier in the summer, 25 per cent of all travel in New York state occurs in the fall. The agency estimates that last year, statewide travel spending from September to November had a $15.6 billion total economic impact.
