TORONTO — Joanne LaPlace from The Travel Store in Moncton, NB, has won ­­an 8-day Thailand Discovery tour and a 3-day Chiang Mai & Elephants trip courtesy of Intrepid Travel and Travelweek.

“This is a bucket list trip for sure,” Joanne said when she learned about the prize. Her tour will begin in Bangkok and go to Sangkhalburi, Thong Pha Phum and Kanchanaburi. The second part of the prize is a 3-day tour from Chiang Mai with a chance to get up close with the elephants of Thailand.

Intrepid ended its elephant rides and visits to entertainment venues on all of its trips earlier this year, following an extensive three-year research process to assess the welfare of captive elephants at entertainment venues in Asia.

The contest ran this summer in Travel Professional: Groups Edition to help celebrate Intrepid Travel’s 25th anniversary.
