TORONTO — A bitterly cold and snowy winter across much of the country has Canadians scrambling to escape to warmer climes, and the Feb. 15 weekend has been a big seller for departures.
“There’s been a lot of demand for Valentine’s Week, especially since in various parts of the country it coincides with the Family Day holiday,” says Director, Corporate Communications for Travel Brands Inc., Kerry Sharpe. “Sunquest’s bookings have been very strong recently as many Canadians look flee the frigid temperatures.”
At press time Sunquest still had availability at Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa, Dreams Los Cabos Suite Golf Resort & Spa and Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, said Sharpe.
Transat has limited space available as well, “for lovers to get away for Valentine’s Day.”
Out of Toronto, Transat flights were available to Punta Cana Feb. 13, 14 and 15, with accommodation at Grand Palladium Palace Resort and Barcelo Punta Cana Prestige Class (with Transat Holidays) and Blau Natura Park Beach Eco Resort & Spa noliPLUS (with Nolitours).
To Mexico’s Riviera Maya, space was available on Feb. 14 flights with accommodation at Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach Le Mirage and Grand Bahia Principe Coba Royal Golden (Transat Holidays) and Catalonia Yucatan Beach Resort & Spa noliPLUS (Nolitours), and to Cozumel on Feb. 14 staying at the Allegro Cozumel noliPLUS (Nolitours).
Over at Sunwing, bookings are up for Valentine’s week and hotel space and air seats are also very limited. Some space is available at the Royalton Punta Cana Resort & Casino, the Royalton White Sands in Montego Bay and Grand Sunset Princess All Suites Resort in Riviera Maya.
Right at the end of Valentine’s week, Air Canada Vacations has Puerto Plata available Feb. 20 with one-week all-inclusive packages out of Toronto at the Bahia Principe San Juan.
