CALGARY — The strike is over – and WestJet is now in the process of restoring its schedule.

The one-day strike ended with WestJet and CUPE, representing WestJet’s 4,400 flight attendants, reaching a tentative agreement, bringing an end to the work stoppage and network-wide operational disruption, and withdrawing both the strike and lockout notices.

The agreement will now go to WestJet Cabin Crew for a ratification vote.

“Some flights may continue to be affected as operations recover,” said WestJet. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport, and check WestJet’s Travel Advisories for the latest info and available options.

WestJet added: “The impact of recent labour disruptions on our scheduled flights means that a full return to normal operations will take time. As we resume flying and repositioning our aircraft and crews, some flights may continue to be disrupted.”

The airline said its teams are working to safely restore operations as soon as possible, with more details on the return to operations shared as they become available. Meanwhile WestJet’s flexible change policy has been extended to Aug. 6. Passengers travelling through Aug. 6, 2026 can make a one-time change or cancellation at no additional cost.

Before the tentative agreement was reached, the list of network-wide cancellations hit 645 flights. The Travel Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) urged the federal government to “act immediately.”
