TORONTO — As the saying goes, ‘love is in the details,’ which is something Le Germain Hotel Toronto kept in mind when redesigning its guestrooms.
Unveiled last week in Toronto, the 118 newly upgraded rooms took nine months to complete, with design input taken directly from guests.
“We invited guests to experience and give feedback on a model room in the hotel over the course of three months before the start of the renovations,” said Christiane Germain, Co-President of Group Germain Hotels. “Their valuable input enabled us to refine the room design in terms of ergonomics, lighting, comfort and overall aesthetics. We are even more pleased to unveil the new rooms knowing that they were designed to deliver exactly what our guests value and appreciate most.”
According to Louise Dupont, partner at LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture and Design, who oversaw the transformation, no detail was overlooked. The rooms now feature an intelligent LED lighting system that creates a diffused effect, an oversized spa-style bathroom, and deluxe accents like wall coverings made from 95% recycled matter. The focal point in each room, however, is a one-of-a-kind art installation by Canadian artists Ann Bartok and Olena Kassian from BARKAS. Each of the featherweight sculptures, of the series called ‘Cloud 9,’ was handmade by the two artists.
“We’ve always been particular about design, ever since the opening of our first hotel about 20 years ago,” added Germain, who credited much of her business acumen to her entrepreneurial father, whose single convenience store catapulted his success in the 1950s. “We alone are responsible for the design, construction and delivery of the rooms – we’re not just hotel managers. Authenticity may be a trendy word in the industry, but it’s also part of our DNA.”
