Berkeley — The Claremount Club & Spa, recently taken over by Fairmount, is a Bay Area landmark spread over 22 acres that recently celebrated its 100th anniversary with a multi-year renovation. The property is nestled in the Oakland Hills in the city of Berkeley with great views of scenic San Francisco Bay and is nearby the University of California.

The Claremont property joined the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts collection following an extensive renovation and rebrand, ushering in a new era of style and luxury.

The Claremont and its iconic Tower Suite date back to the Gold Rush and has an interesting history: it was originally built as an English castle, but then burned to the ground in 1901. Then after being won in poker game and damaged in an earthquake, the sprawling hotel was finally completed in 1915.

The newly restored resort under the Fairmont brand is home to 276 guestrooms and suites, award-winning restaurants, 20,000 square feet of meeting space, spa and tennis club, plus on-site babysitting, which entitles families to three free hours.

Rooms come with either a Bay or garden view. They are all newly appointed, some with blue décor for business travellers and the other purple and yellow for leisure.

Meritage, Claremont Club & Spa’s signature restaurant overlooks the stunning Bay and serves fresh seafood, cut-to-order Japanese Wagyu, California grass-fed beef and USDA Prime cuts, all prepared with locally-sourced ingredients.

From corporate meetings to weddings, Claremont Club & Spa hosts a variety of events in over 20,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including two versatile ballrooms and several function spaces, all with lovely views.

The Fairmont Spa at the Claremont is open to hotel guests and visitors and offers a full menu of spa services. With 32 treatment rooms (including two couples’ suites), a full-service hair and nail salon, and a spa menu that emphasizes natural healing therapies, the Fairmont Spa is a nice getaway in the heart of Berkeley.

The Club at the Claremont, open to hotel guests and private members, features a 10,000 square-foot fitness centre with daily fitness classes, 10 tennis courts and three swimming pools.
