Guests can now check into Delta Sky Club using just their fingerprints

NEW YORK – In April 2016, Delta made moves to expedite the security experience at major U.S. airport by teaming up with CLEAR, the country’s leading biometric identity platform that utilizes fingerprint and iris ID technology. Now, the airline has announced that Delta Sky Club members with CLEAR can use their fingerprints to enter all 50 U.S. Delta Sky Club locations beginning this week.

This initiative makes Delta the only U.S.-based global airline to offer customers a secure biometric check-in option at a single touch point across its domestic network. The experience is made possible through Delta’s new biometrics program – Delta Biometrics Powered by CLEAR – which is free for Delta Sky Club members who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

“From unlocking our phones to entering the workplace, more and more people have the option to use biometrics as a form of identity verification for daily activities,” said Gil West, Delta’s COO. “Having that option is quickly becoming an expectation that we are working hard to meet through this program.”

For Delta Sky Club members without a CLEAR membership who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, enrolling in Delta Biometrics is easy, free and optional. First, they must visit a CLEAR enrollment kiosk in one of 14 Delta Sky Club locations across the U.S. At these kiosks, a CLEAR representative will be able to help with registration. Then, the member is immediately able to use Delta Biometrics to check into the Delta Sky Club.

Delta Biometrics features a new, enhanced scanner that was designed in response to customer feedback. The scanner now includes ergonomic finger supports and fingerprint reader to promotion successful scans, as well as intuitive sound and lighting check-in response so that processing signals are easier to understand.

The program is the latest example of Delta’s investments in applied innovation. Over the past several years, the airline has replaced IC checks at touch points with fingerprint scanning, and introduced biometric-based self-service bag drop, RFID baggage handling, automatic check-in and back tracking via the Fly Delta mobile app, and a groundbreaking app that helps Delta pilots avoid turbulence. Just last month, Delta was named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies Worldwide in 2018.
