NEW YORK — People’s fascination of the doomed Titanic shows no sign of diminishing, even after 100-plus years after its tragic demise. The latest glimpse of what life was like on the famous ship comes courtesy of Harper’s Bazaar, which recently published its actual menus in first, second and third class.
Not surprisingly, the posh cuisine in first class ranges from Chicken à la Maryland and Grilled Mutton Chops to Apple Meringue for dessert and ice cold lager beer. Yum!
Second class menus, though less refined, still sound pretty tasty, with dinner entrées like Spring Lamb with Mint Sauce and a delightfully named Wine Jelly enticing tastebuds.
However, the grub in third class leaves much to be desired, with basic offerings like Cabin Biscuits and something called Rice Soup on the menu. There’s also mention of Gruel (thin, cooked cereal boiled in oatmeal), which compared to the array of fine cheeses served in first class, would make anyone wish for an upgrade.
