OTTAWA – The grounds of Rideau Hall will be turned into an outdoor movie theatre for two days this month with screenings of Canadian films, appearances by directors and free popcorn.

It’s billed as the first Rideau Hall Movie Nights.

Gov. Gen. David Johnston is hosting the event and said he is “particularly looking forward to connecting with thousands of fellow moviegoers” on the grounds of his official residence.

“The Grand Seduction” will be screened Aug. 17, with Don McKellar on hand to discuss his film, which premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Daniel Roby, along with producer Christian Larouche and actor Gilbert Sicotte, will discuss the Quebec box-office hit “Louis Cyr: l’homme le plus fort du monde,” being screened Aug. 19. NFB shorts will also be shown.

Screenings start at sunset.

Visitors can bring blankets and a picnic and watch the movies under the stars. Admission is free. Rain dates are Aug. 18 and 20.
