Germany’s big anniversary in 2015: the reunification of East and West

TORONTO — It’s been a busy couple of years for Germany. Last year the country celebrated the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This year marks 25 years since the reunification.

The German National Tourist Office is expecting more than one million revellers in Frankfurt Oct. 2 – 4 for an anniversary weekend celebration that will include performance stages and street booths.

Several GNTO partners were in Toronto yesterday for a press event, including Stuttgart, Munich Airport, Bremerhaven, Steigenberger Hotel Group, Saxony and Leipzig.

The Steigenberger Hotel Group oversees both the InterCityHotel chain and Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts. The group recently announced the launch of a third hotel chain, called Jaz in the City. “It’s a lifestyle boutique concept, a trendy, stylish line of hotels,” said Birgit Albicker-Rimpel, Director International Sales. The first Jaz in the City property will open in Amsterdam in September.

In other news, Munich Airport will welcome a satellite terminal in 2016, accommodating an additional 11 million passengers annually. Munich Airport currently has two terminals plus a seasonal beer garden and the world’s only airport brewery, Airbrau.
