Surfers in residence at OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort

OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort has a rich surf history; the property sits on the original location of Outrigger Canoe Club, where Duke Kahanamoku – the father of modern surfing – was a member.

Today, Duke’s legacy lives on with various surf exhibits and artwork as well as Duke’s Waikiki restaurant. Faith Surf School fronts the resort and brings the aloha of surfing through lessons and rentals.

The Surfers in Residence program at OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort is a one-of-a-kind experience where each month, a prominent member of the surf community is at the property to record a podcast and share their story. Guests have the opportunity to hear from professional surfers and watermen.

Previous interviewees range from Olympic Gold Medalist Carissa Moore and 11x World Champion Kelly Slater to legendary waterman Mark Cunningham and recent Eddie Big Wave Surf Contest winner, Luke Shepardson. The goal of OUTRIGGER’s Surfers in Residence platform is to take a deep dive into the minds of modern surf legends, industry leaders and rising stars – connecting the surf community and furthering the cultural impact of the sport.

World-renowned underwater surf photographer Zak Noyle’s company Eleven 17 films the podcast, allowing resort guests to observe the recording of the podcast quietly.

If you’d like to learn more about the history of surfing in Waikiki, be sure to attend our Surf Tour every Wednesday at 10 a.m., and on select days our Surfers in Residence episode is filmed.

The Surfers in Residence series was born of a collaboration in 2019 between OUTRIGGER and Faith Surf School owners, Tammy and Tony Moniz, whose surfing family enjoys passing on their love for people and surfing from their home break fronting OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort.

Find the Surfers in Residence on Spotify and Apple Podcast or book a room at OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort to watch it live…
