Baha Mar completion is Bahamas PM’s top priority

NASSAU — At the annual CHTA conference this past weekend Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie stressed that completing Baha Mar is his top priority.

The luxury resort development has had multiple setbacks but Christie stressed it is imperative that a resolution come soon as it has been agreed that the Baha Mar will host the 2016 IDB conference in March. “Time is up, unemployment benefits are running out and 2,000 workers are waiting to resume work on the property,” he said.

Joy Jibrilu, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, said  “everything is in place. The Baha Mar is 97% ready to go, all approvals are in place.” She said she is excited for the value-add this product will bring to the Bahamas with its extensive offerings. Although it has been confirmed it will host the IDB in March there is no specific time frame for the final completion of the mega project.

Jibrilu noted that multiple parties have stepped forward with an interest in purchasing Baha Mar.
