WestJet unveils biggest-ever winter sun schedule

CALGARY — WestJet is ramping up its winter sun offering with its largest-ever schedule to Latin America and the Caribbean, adding capacity and new routes from communities across Canada.

For winter 2026/27, the airline will operate up to 1,252 weekly flights across 88 unique non-stop routes between Canada and destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean. Overall capacity to the region will increase 12% year over year.

WestJet is also strengthening its position as Canada’s largest airline to Mexico, Belize, Honduras and Aruba.

“As demand for sun travel continues to grow, we’re proud to offer our most comprehensive Latin America and Caribbean schedule yet,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “By increasing capacity and continuing to expand access between Canadians’ favourite vacation destinations and the communities they call home, we’re making it easier for more guests to travel where they want, when they want.”

WESTERN CANADA’S CAPACITY INCREASES

WestJet is increasing frequencies, deploying larger aircraft and launching new routes in several Western Canadian markets.

Saskatoon will see the largest year-over-year capacity increase at 77%. WestJet is adding a weekly flight to both Puerto Vallarta and Cancun, increasing peak-period frequencies on each route from four to five weekly flights.

Capacity from Edmonton will increase 34%, with the airline doubling weekly flights to Los Cabos and Montego Bay compared with last winter.

In Calgary, capacity to Latin America and the Caribbean will grow 18%. The airline is increasing service to Mexico, including twice-daily flights to Los Cabos, additional daily flights to Cancun and new non-stop service to Merida.

Winnipeg will see a 26% increase in capacity, with additional weekly flights to Liberia, Costa Rica, as well as Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos. The airline will also introduce new service to Belize City and Punta Cana.

Regina will see capacity increase 64%, including the launch of new non-stop service to Los Cabos.

NEW CALGARY–SAO PAULO SERVICE

WestJet will also launch what it describes as the only direct service between Western Canada and South America this winter, with new non-stop flights between Calgary and São Paulo, Brazil.

The approximately 14-hour service will connect Calgary with one of South America’s largest cities. Through WestJet’s partnership with LATAM, customers will also be able to access more than 60 additional destinations across South America through direct booking interline travel on WestJet.com.

The Calgary-São Paulo route will complement WestJet’s seasonal winter Dreamliner network. The airline will resume select Dreamliner flights to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Maui, while continuing daily year-round Dreamliner service to London Heathrow, Paris and Tokyo.

Seasonal summer Dreamliner services to Rome and Seoul will operate on an extended schedule until November before returning in March 2027. During the summer, WestJet also operates Dreamliner service from Calgary to Dublin, Edinburgh and Barcelona.

WestJet’s full winter schedule is available on westjet.com.
