MONTREAL — Air Canada’s latest update for Aeroplan members aims to strike a note of reassurance amid Strait of Hormuz tensions and recent headlines about the global fuel supply.
“There is no fuel shortage affecting Air Canada’s operations, including across Europe, and there is no significant impact anticipated through the summer,” said the airline in a June 2 email.
Air Canada adds that it “fully expects” to operate its current summer schedule. “While global fuel markets remain dynamic, there are diversified and sophisticated fuel supplies in place.”
Widespread media coverage of sky-high airfares and fuel surcharges, not to mention warnings about jet fuel running out, has led to traveller skittishness.
There was news last month that at least in Europe, airlines began to lower fares in the weeks after April 9, to stimulate demand. That was right after Europe’s airports issued their dire warning about jet fuel shortages this spring and summer.
Air Canada’s latest incentives for Aeroplan members include 25% off Standard base fares and above on select routes from Canada to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Conditions apply.
Aeroplan members who make a new Air Canada booking for travel between these regions by Sept.1 for travel by Sept. 8 will also receive one free change or the option to cancel for a future travel credit in their AC Wallet on eligible Standard Fares and above.
“As always, if there are any changes to the travel schedule, you’ll hear from Air Canada first, with clear options to support you throughout your travel journey,” said the airline.
