American Airlines cuts Montreal and Toronto routes in 2027 network shake-up

TORONTO — American Airlines is making several changes to its Canadian network, including dropping its New York JFK–Toronto route and ending Miami–Montreal service in January 2027, as the carrier adjusts its schedule for next summer.

According to Airline Geeks and Simple Flying, the changes include route cancellations, temporary suspensions and seasonal schedule adjustments affecting Canadian and U.S. destinations.

The affected routes and changes are:

  • New York JFK–Toronto Pearson: The planned resumption of service in April 2027 has been cancelled. The route was suspended in May 2026.

  • Miami–Montreal: The last scheduled flight is Jan. 5, 2027.

  • Dallas/Fort Worth–Montreal: Service will be temporarily suspended during April and most of May 2027, then resume May 27 with daily flights operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.

  • New York JFK–Calgary: Seasonal service will begin earlier, on June 17, 2027, operating three times weekly.

  • New York JFK–Quebec City: Seasonal service will also begin earlier, on June 17, 2027.

  • Phoenix–Provo, Utah: Service ends in January 2027.

  • Miami–Tulum, Mexico: Service ends in January 2027.

  • Chicago O’Hare–Lincoln, Nebraska: Service ends in April 2027.

  • Dallas/Fort Worth–Albany, New York: Seasonal service will not resume for summer 2027.

  • Charlotte–San José del Cabo, Mexico: Service is scheduled to end after August 2027.

  • Washington National–Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Seasonal service will be suspended from November, with flights scheduled to resume April 5, 2027.

  • New York LaGuardia–Bozeman, Montana: Service will move to JFK in June 2027, with frequency increasing from one flight per week to four.

  • New York JFK–Seattle: Service resumes April 6, 2027, with two daily flights.

“As part of targeted actions to strengthen the airline, American will moderate its planned growth next summer,” an American spokesperson told Airline Geeks. “We will continue to evaluate our network, while remaining focused on investing in our product, enhancing reliability and serving the destinations our customers value most.”
