OTTAWA — The Canadian Transportation Agency has approved Air Transat’s license application for flights to Guatemala, and WestJet Group’s application for continued service to Honduras.

Both applications are for scheduled international service. WestJet’s application was for a temporary license, good through June 30, 2027.

Guatemala’s main hub is La Aurora International Airport (GUA).

It’s the latest route news for Air Transat. The airline has removed its upcoming winter sun flights to Ft. Lauderdale from Halifax and Montreal from its schedule, as reported yesterday.

Earlier this month ACV announced it was expanding its Central America offerings with new guided tours in Guatemala, packaged with Air Canada flights. Meanwhile Flair applied for and also received permission to operate flights to Guatemala.

WestJet Group already offers Honduras, to Roatan, with WestJet’s service from Toronto resuming Nov. 15, 2026 through May 2, 2027. Roatan is also available with Sunwing Vacations, including winter sun flights between Roatan and Quebec City as WestJet Group announced yesterday.

Air Canada got the green light for Honduras flights back in February. At that time Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick told Travelweek that Air Canada currently has no plans to operate flights to Honduras, but “we’re continually exploring different opportunities and keeping our options open. There are other places where we have CTA approval but to which we do not fly.”
