Air Canada’s free Manulife COVID coverage now for Aeroplan members

MONTREAL — Air Canada has announced that Aeroplan Members making an eligible new booking with Air Canada originating in Canada will receive complimentary Manulife COVID-19 Emergency Medical and Quarantine Insurance.

The shift to offer the free coverage to only Aeroplan members took effect Dec. 1, for bookings made Dec. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020. Air Canada’s Aeroplan program is free to join.

Air Canada first introduced its free Manulife COVID-19 Emergency Medical and Quarantine Insurance on Sept. 17, at that time for all eligible Air Canada passengers. That program initially applied to new bookings made from Sept. 17 – Oct. 31 and was extended to Nov. 30.

Under the new program now in effect, the Manulife COVID-19 Insurance covers eligible Canadian residents, who are Aeroplan Members, when travelling internationally on a booking made with Air Canada, for travel completed by April 12, 2021.

The airline says Manulife coverage will be automatically included if eligible when booking is purchased, or flight is redeemed. There are no registration forms to complete and premiums are paid for by Air Canada.

Each passenger on an eligible booking must be an Aeroplan Member and have a unique Aeroplan number associated with their ticket before checking in in order to receive the complimentary Manulife COVID-19 Emergency Medical and Quarantine Insurance.
