LOT is the latest airline to waive change fees

WARSAW — LOT Polish Airlines is the latest airline to waive change fees as it grapples with diminished demand for airline travel in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective today, Sept. 11, LOT passengers can repeatedly change their travel schedule without incurring additional charges.

The move offers increased flexibility at a time when travellers’ plans can be disrupted with very little notice, as entry protocols and travel restrictions change to keep pace with the pandemic.

Last month Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines, all Lufthansa Group Airlines, announced they were waiving change fees through the end of December 2020.

Delta, United and American Airlines are also dropping change fees, for domestic flights. American also dropped change fees for flights between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, and United has now reportedly also dropped the fees for Mexico and the Caribbean.

“We understand the needs of our clients who, in the face of restriction dynamics in particular countries in connection with the global pandemic, expect to receive a service that will provide the highest level of safety, comfort, and flexibility when planning a travel,” says Michał Fijoł, LOT’s Chief Commercial Officer.

“This does not concern just those that intend to go on a leave in early autumn, but also business travel that is making a gradual comeback. We offer to our clients one of the most competitive products on the market, and namely: flexible booking and easy online management, attractive airline ticket prices, and high standards in in-flight products. We continually improve the quality of our offer, fighting for every passenger.”

LOT passengers can now change the date and direction of travel in their booking free of charge, and as many times as they want. This applies to tickets purchased Sept. 10 – Dec. 31, 2020 on all LOT flights, in each available fare, including the cheapest ‘saver’ option without additional baggage.

As for tickets purchased before Sept. 10, 2020, passengers may change their direction and date of travel once free of charge.

Current information on the rules for safety and LOT in-flight service can be found at lot.com.
