Four new Airbus A321XLR aircraft on the way for Air Transat

Transat’s commercial flights are back after 112-day hiatus

MONTREAL — Transat is taking to the skies today, 112 days after its commercial flights were essentially grounded in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Transat will offer three international flights (Montreal-Toulouse, Montreal-Paris and Toronto-London) and three domestic flights (Montreal-Toronto, Toronto-Montreal and Toronto-Vancouver).

Transat’s entire reduced summer schedule of 24 routes to some 20 destinations will be up and running by Aug. 2.

Says Annick Guérard, Transat’s Chief Operating Officer: “July 23 is, and will remain, a very special day in the history of Transat. We are gradually resuming our flight operations after a 112-day shutdown.”

Guérard adds: “There will be excitement in the air during our carrier’s first takeoffs this evening. The entire Transat team, starting with our on-duty flight crews, is very pleased to return to action and to offer our passengers a restyled experience adapted to the situation. The skies are slowly clearing and that is encouraging, but it in no way means that the crisis caused by COVID-19 is over.”

Transat notes that up until now, September 11, 2001, was the most significant and transformative event in the travel and tourism industry in the last two decades. By September 13, just two days later, Transat had announced the gradual resumption of its flights.

Meanwhile Transat has updated its ‘Traveller Care’ guide to include information on destination entry requirements.

‘Traveller Care’ now features hyperlinks about entry requirements for each destination Transat will offer. With travel regulations evolving rapidly from one country to another, these links will allow travellers to easily check their admissibility for their destination country.

For example, travellers may need to provide a medical certificate attesting that they’re fit to travel or undergo a COVID-19 screening test. Other requirements may include providing contact information or quarantining at destination or upon their return home.

These hyperlinks are in addition to all other tips in the guide such as how to comply with the new health and safety measures, how to limit contact and what new procedures to expect in destination.
