Dominica ready to reopen to tourism Aug. 7

ROSEAU — Dominica has started to reopen and is looking ahead to phase 2 of the process.

All travellers, including non-nationals, will be permitted to travel to The Nature Island beginning Aug. 7 as part of phase 2. Phase 1 for the island started July 15, allowing nationals and residents to return home.

Here’s a look at Dominica’s health and safety protocols …

Protocols for pre-arrival

  • Submit a health questionnaire online at least 24 hours prior to arrival
  • Show notification of clearance to travel
  • Submit a negative PCR test result recorded within 24-72 hours prior to arrival

Protocols upon arrival

  • Wear face masks at all times during the arrival process up to and including departure from the airport
  • Observe physical distancing guidelines
  • Practice good respiratory and personal sanitization
  • Follow all instructions of health care staff and officials

Disembarkation and testing (children under five years old are exempt)

Travellers must:

  • Sanitize their hands at sanitization stations as directed
  • Undergo a health assessment to include a temperature check
  • Provide confirmation of the health questionnaire and negative PCR test results
  • Undergo rapid test screening and with a negative test result, they will be conveyed to immigration for processing and to customs for screening. Luggage will be sanitized when taken off conveyor belt

Travellers who report a high temperature, high risk alert from their health questionnaire or positive rapid test will:

  • Proceed to secondary screening area
  • Be given a PCR test
  • Be transported to mandatory quarantine at a government-approved facility or government certified hotel at their expense awaiting results
  • If the test result is positive, the traveller may be quarantined until released by an authorized health professional

Departure from Dominica

Travellers must:

  • Wear face masks at all times during the departure process until departure from airport
  • Observe physical distancing
  • Practice good respiratory and personal sanitization
  • Follow instructions of health care staff and officials
