Swoop to suspend international service Sunday

Swoop to suspend international service March 22

CALGARY — Swoop is set to suspend all regular international and transborder flights at the end of Sunday, March 22, 2020, focusing instead on bringing home its passengers who are still abroad.

Starting March 23, the airline says it will alter its international operations and commit to bringing home 2,349 Canadian travellers. There will be a total of 15 flights scheduled over three days to repatriate these travellers.

“These are extraordinary times, and we want to be sure our Swoop travellers are safe at home in Canada,” says Bert van der Stege, Head of Commercial for Swoop. “Our priority is to bring Canadian travellers home, ensuring the safety of our travellers, crew and aircraft. We have put these suspensions and subsequent repatriation efforts in place to continue to deliver on that.”
Swoop says impacted travellers are being contacted via email with more specific information on how to rebook on these repatriation flights, as well as how to cancel any upcoming international travel.

The airline’s international flight suspension is in place until May 31, 2020.
