MISSISSAUGA — TICO’s latest updates include new charges laid against an Ottawa-based travel agency and a Compensation Fund payment to consumers.

Pure Yoga Ottawa Inc. and Pure Yoga Ottawa (Bank Street) Inc. have been charged with one count each of operating as a travel agent without being registered.

TICO has also charged Todd A. Brown with two counts of being an Officer and Director of a Corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the Corporation from committing an offence, in this case, for operating without TICO registration.

It is alleged that between May 1, 2018 and Oct. 30, 2019, Pure Yoga Ottawa Inc. and Pure Yoga Ottawa (Bank Street) Inc. held themselves out as available to sell yoga retreats to consumers in Ontario to various destinations around the world, with accommodations included.

Charges were laid on Dec. 4. Brown will appear in court in Ottawa on Jan. 16, 2020.

TICO has also announced that on Dec. 10, its Board of Directors approved a payment from the Travel Industry Compensation Fund in the amount of $212.21 to assist four consumers who incurred expenses in destination due to the failure of Millennium Leisure Travels Inc., a TICO-registered travel agency.

The agency had its TICO-registration revoked on May 1, 2019.
