Opening date for Club Med Quebec Charlevoix delayed by 1 year

MONTREAL — Club Med has been forced to delay the opening of its first-ever Canadian Club Med property because of labour shortages in Quebec’s construction industry.

Groupe le Massif and Club Med announced today that Club Med Québec Charlevoix will officially open its doors to the public in December 2021.

That’s one year later than originally planned. An opening date of Dec. 5, 2020 had been announced at the first stone-laying for the development back in June 2019.

The companies say the new date comes following changes made in the construction schedule.

“Groupe le Massif and Club Med are dedicated to involving the local ecosystem of contractors, artisans and local businesses in the construction of Club Med Québec Charlevoix,” says a statement from Club Med. “Since the beginning of the project, the two companies have been committed in offering a resort experience that reflects the local spirit.

“In order to deliver on this promise and guarantee the highest quality standards, Groupe le Massif have had to review their timetable due to Quebec’s booming construction market.

“Club Med Québec Charlevoix is a key project for the region and the decision to change the opening date was made to preserve the interest of the numerous stakeholders.”

André Roy, Executive Vice-President and General Manager, Groupe Le Massif, added that the move comes on the heels of labour shortages in Quebec’s construction industry. “This delay will not affect the other projects underway at the Massif. Our expansion is moving along nicely.”

Carolyne Doyon, President and CEO, Club Med North America, added: “Club Med’s commitment to the local communities and the integrity of its resorts is at the forefront of each new construction project.

“We are taking advantage of this extra time to continue to create a unique experience that will be true to the Quebec and Charlevoix identities while staying committed to engaging with local suppliers and partners.”
