WestJet waives change fees for Bermuda as Humberto gains strength

TORONTO — WestJet is waiving change fees for flights to Bermuda (BDA) as Hurricane Humberto tracks towards the island.

WestJet’s flexible rebooking policy is now in place for flights in and out of Bermuda for dates Sept. 19 – Sept. 21.

So far Humberto, upgraded to hurricane status yesterday, is staying well clear of the U.S. as it heads north. However beachgoers on the southeastern U.S. coast are still being warned to watch for potentially dangerous rip currents.

Humberto strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane late Sunday night, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph. The storm was about 785 miles (1,260 kilometres) west of Bermuda and moving northeast at 3 mph (5 kph).

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Humberto will bring large swells to the northwestern Bahamas and southeastern U.S. coast for several days.

The National Weather Service issued advisories warning of high rip current risks through Monday evening at beaches from northeast Florida to North Carolina.
