MANCHESTER, NH — Imagine slowly going down an escalator and then seeing a man dressed in a bunny costume, waiting for you at the bottom while clutching a bunch of balloons.
Would you swoon – or would you scream bloody murder?
Luckily, for one woman from Londonderry, New Hampshire, the somewhat terrifying scene was a familiar one from the day she got engaged to the love of her life.
Jolene DeAngelis was flying back home from vacation in Florida with her two daughters when she saw the familiar-looking bunny at the foot of the airport escalators. No, it wasn’t a deranged stranger – it was her husband, Mark, who wanted to surprise her by recreating his wedding proposal from 21 years ago.
That’s right, Mark – ever the romantic – had first proposed to Jolene dressed in a white bunny costume while at a family Easter egg hunt.
“That whole thing bought me a lot of points for a lot of years,” he told WMUR-TV. “Now I need to restock those points.”
So his plan was to recreate that moment with a nearly identical bunny suit and a new platinum ring (hidden in an egg and safely ensconced in an Easter basket) to commemorate the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary.
“I’m gonna ask her for another 20 years – at least,” he said.
Awww, cue the swooning hearts!
Jolene’s reaction upon seeing Bunny-Mark was one of disbelief. “I’m shocked,” she laughs on camera, “I had no clue, no clue.”
The couple’s two teenage daughters, Amanda and Audrey, were there to witness their dad’s romantic gesture. “It’s just my parents and I love them so much, and I thought it was so sweet of him to think of her and do this for her,” said one daughter.
We’re not sure how Mark plans on topping this on their 50th anniversary, but we can’t wait to find out!
