Canadian overnights in Germany still on the rise

TORONTO — Overnight stays in Germany were up 4.8% in the first four months of the year, with a 5% increase from Canada, continuing this market’s “solid positive growth trend” from last year.

Petra Hedorfer, Chair of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), says German incoming tourism continues to grow dynamically, with 23.1 million international overnight stays in hotels with 10 beds and more from January – April 2018.

“One million additional nights in four months: this is further proof of the successful positioning of Germany as a travel destination. Europe, the most important source region for German incoming, contribute solid growth at the rate of 3.6%. Asian markets and those from the entire American continent exhibit an increase of 6.5 and 8.2% respectively,” says Hedorfer.

Canada and the U.S. each contributed 5% more overnight stays in Germany during the first four months of this year compared with the same period in 2017. From Central America and the Caribbean, the number of overnight stays almost doubled January to April year over year.
