New Maple Leaf Lounge coming to Saskatoon airport this fall

MONTREAL — Coming this fall, Air Canada will debut a brand new Maple Leaf Lounge at Saskatoon’s John G. Diefenbaker International Airport.

Currently in construction, this marks the airline’s 17th Maple Leaf Lounge in Canada. Upon completion, it will span 1,474 square feet and have seat capacity for 40 customers. Additional details will be announced upon opening.

“We look forward to opening our newest Maple Leaf Lounge in Saskatoon later this year, which will offer our eligible customers an elevated airport experience, with a quiet place to relax or work before their flight,” said Benjamin Smith, Air Canada’s President, Passenger Airlines.

Stephen Maybury, President and CEO of Skyxe Saskatoon Airport, added: “Skyxe Saskatoon Airport is delighted to partner with Air Canada to bring a Maple Leaf Lounge to Saskatoon. We know that many customers will enjoy the highly anticipated lounge experience.

The Saskatoon Airport authority (SAA) changed the branding of the airport to Skyxe in September 2016, though the airport building itself is still named John G. Diefenbaker International Airport.

There are currently 22 Maple Leaf Lounges worldwide, including 16 in Canada plus lounges at New York-LaGuardia, New York-Newark, Los Angeles, London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Paris.

This summer, Air Canada will have up to 17 daily flights representing up to 1,320 seats departing Saskatoon, with six flights to Toronto, one to Ottawa, two to Winnipeg, four to Calgary, one to Edmonton, and three to Vancouver. Since 2012, Air Canada has increased available seat capacity from Saskatoon by approximately 15%.
