Club Med sees ‘massif’ growth in ski resort bookings ahead of its first resort in Canada

TORONTO — Club Med Canada’s team was in Toronto last night to push its upcoming 2017-2018 season, just hours after the all-inclusive chain announced plans to open the first Club Med resort in Canada.

In a media statement yesterday, Club Med said it planned to formally announce today the launch of a new resort in Le Massif de Charlevoix, Quebec. The company says this first Club Med resort in Canada will provide new opportunities for visibility for the brand, while giving Charlevoix and Quebec an international presence.

Details of the new ski resort will be released at today’s press conference but the intentions were clear at a Club Med event last night, attended by travel agents in Toronto and the GTA.

“Our ski packages were once again a success in Ontario last year, with a growth of 30%,” said Carolyne Doyon, Club Med’s Senior VP, Canada and Mexico.

Doyon credits this to the Ontario clients being keen skiers who don’t have access to premium ski spots such as Club Med’s locations in the French Alps. And of course, travel agents. “This is thanks to you, our travel partners,” continued Doyon, referring not only to the ski market success from this province, but also the double-digit growth they have seen in Ontario overall.

“It’s key for us to grow our Ontario market, especially in the ski market,” said Doyon. Part of this strategy has been the addition of Janet Martin this month, Club Med’s newest BDM who is looking after Ontario, Alberta and B.C. A familiar face to many in the room, Martin has 16 years of experience in the industry with roles at Flight Centre, Hard Rock and Palace Resorts.
