Orlando tourism grew in 2016, despite tragic headlines

Porter enters Florida market with new non-stop service to Orlando

TORONTO — Porter Airlines has set its sights on sunnier skies with the launch of its non-stop service from Toronto to Orlando.

The sold out inaugural flight, which took place on Dec. 19, marks the airline’s entry into the coveted Florida market. The seasonal weekly service departs from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to Orlando-Melbourne International Airport and will continue to run until April 30, 2016.

“Orlando-Melbourne is now our most southern destination. This route provides a convenient connection between downtown Toronto and a part of Florida that lacked international air service until now,” said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines.

Orlando-Melbourne is located along Florida’s Atlantic coastline and is known as the Space Coast for its proximity to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Port Canaveral is also situated nearby, providing an ideal hub for cruise passengers.

Introductory prices start at $443 for a roundtrip. Porter operates one weekly roundtrip flight on Saturday, departing Toronto at 10:20 a.m. and returning from Orlando-Melbourne at 2:25 p.m. Connecting flights via Toronto provide service for multiple other Canadian cities served by Porter.

To complement the new service, Porter Escapes offers a range of packages in the Orlando-Melbourne area that includes flights, hotels and attractions. Seven-day packages start at $1,150 per person, double occupancy, for a seven-night stay at the Hilton Cocoa Beach departing Jan. 23.
