Lufthansa introduces its new Premium Economy Class to Canada

FRANKFURT — Lufthansa has introduced its new Premium Economy Class on two Canadian routes: Vancouver-Frankfurt (YVR-FRA) and Toronto-Frankfurt (YYZ-FRA).

The third Canadian Lufthansa gateway, Montreal, will launch the new class on the Montreal-Munich (YUL-MUC) route on Oct. 25. The new Premium Economy will then be available on all Lufthansa services the airline currently offers to and from Canada in its winter schedule.

Lufthansa flies daily to Frankfurt from both Vancouver and Toronto with a Boeing 747-400 that offers 32 Premium Economy seats and with the switch to the winter schedule in late October, will fly four times per week from Montreal to Munich with an Airbus A330 offering 21 Premium Economy seats.

Located between Business and Economy Class, the new Premium Economy Class offers passengers more personal space and comfort, a higher level of service and excellent value.

“Lufthansa is delighted to introduce Premium Economy Class to Canada. Lufthansa’s Premium Economy Class creates a completely new travel experience by combining affordability with greater comfort,” said Hans DeHaan, Director Canada, Lufthansa Group. “We have been rolling out the new Premium Economy Class on our long-haul fleet for the past year with very positive feedback from our U.S. passengers and we anticipate that Canadians will also respond enthusiastically to this exciting new option.”

The new product has enabled Lufthansa to meet the requirements of many business and leisure passengers. The new Premium Economy Class offers considerably more space and comfort, as well as many additional product features, compared to Economy Class, but is closer to Economy Class prices.

According to Jens Bischof, Member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board Product, Marketing & Sales and Chief Commercial Officer, “following the upgrade of our First and Business Class, the installation of 3,600 Premium Economy seats on all of Lufthansa’s 106 long-haul aircraft in just one year will mean another step towards becoming a five-star airline”.

The new Premium Economy offers seat pitch of 38 inches and passengers have approximately one-and-a-half times as much room as compared to Economy Class.

With a baggage allowance of two items weighing up to 50lb each, passengers can take twice as much free luggage with them compared to Economy Class. For an extra 25 euros, passengers can also enjoy the comfort of the Lufthansa Business Lounges before their departure. Check-in and boarding procedures, as well as hand luggage regulations, are the same as in Economy Class.

Passengers can navigate the extensive inflight entertainment program using their own touchscreen monitor on the seat in front of them.

Ticket prices in the new Premium Economy Class are closer to Economy Class than Business Class – a return flight across the North Atlantic will cost an additional 600 euros on average.
