AmaWaterways heading to Peru with new Machu Picchu land extension

CALABASAS, CA — AmaWaterways is launching its first-ever journey to Peru in 2027, adding a six-day Machu Picchu land extension to select departures of its ‘Magic of Colombia’ itinerary.

The five-night experience will be available on select post-cruise departures beginning in April 2027, before becoming available on every post-cruise sailing of the itinerary in 2028. The package includes airfare between Colombia and Peru, guided touring and a choice of two hotel experiences.

“Machu Picchu is one of the most iconic places to visit on earth. It is so exciting to add this highly curated experience to our offerings and reflects how AmaWaterways is evolving its approach to luxury river cruising,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways.

“We have always believed the best and most memorable experiences are those that connect our guests deeply to the places they visit. With our first ever Peruvian journey, we are bringing together exceptional hotels, food and service in an unforgettable location.”

FROM LIMA TO THE ANDES

After disembarking in Cartagena, Colombia, guests will fly to Lima, where they will explore the capital’s neighbourhoods of Miraflores and Barranco with a local guide before continuing to Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

The itinerary includes a visit to Machu Picchu, reached aboard either the Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train, or first-class Inca Rail. Guests will explore the ancient Inca citadel with a local guide. Other highlights include the Maras salt pans, Moray’s agricultural terraces, the Sacred Valley town of Ollantaytambo, Cusco’s historic centre, the former Inca temple of Koricancha and the hilltop fortress of Sacsayhuaman.

TWO HOTEL EXPERIENCES

Guests can choose between two accommodation options for the journey.

The Boutique option includes The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center, Tambo del Inka, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, and Palacio del Inka, A Luxury Collection Hotel.

The Iconic option features Miraflores Park, A Belmond Hotel, in Lima and Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel, in Cusco.
