BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS — Barbados is getting a summer boost from Air Canada, with the carrier set to offer year-round Montréal service to the island for the first time in its history.
Beginning at the end of the 2026/27 winter season, Air Canada will operate weekly Sunday flights between Montréal and Bridgetown, building on demand from Québec and strengthening year-round connectivity.
The new service reflects ongoing efforts to grow the Québec market through trade engagement, consumer marketing and industry partnerships, said Eusi Skeete, Canada Director at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI).
“This is a significant moment for Barbados and is indicative of our strong partnership with Air Canada”, says Skeete. “Our partnership spans more than 76 years, and this milestone demonstrates what is possible when an airline and a destination work together with a shared commitment to growing the market.”
Skeete said the destination has seen a positive response from Québec, with Barbados increasingly becoming a destination of choice for consumers and travel advisors.
The new flights also support the Government of Barbados’ focus on market development, connectivity and investment in the visitor experience, said The Ian Gooding-Edghill, Minister of Tourism and International Transport.
“Our Canadian growth strategy, which we embarked upon since 2023 as a ministry, is not simply about bringing more visitors to Barbados, but has been focused on ensuring that travellers can access the island with greater ease and that, once here, they encounter a tourism product that continues to evolve,” the Minister says. “We are therefore continuing to invest in the experiences, infrastructure and services that underpin the Barbados promise, ensuring that increased accessibility is matched by a destination experience that delivers.”
Experiences include Dine with a Bajan, which invites visitors to share a meal with local hosts, and the Barbados Food and Rum Festival, returning in November with chefs, mixologists and local talent celebrating Bajan cuisine and culture.
MORE CANADIAN AIRLIFT
The Montréal expansion is part of a broader increase in Canadian service. Air Canada will boost Toronto flights to eight per week beginning in December, while new weekly nonstop Halifax-Barbados service is scheduled to launch during the 2026/27 winter season.
The Montréal summer flights will be operated by Air Canada Rouge on its 177-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8, featuring personal seatback entertainment, reclining seats and fast, free Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members on equipped aircraft.
Together, the services will give Canadians more flexibility to visit Barbados throughout the year.
