MONTREAL — Air Canada is eyeing scheduled service to Ho Chi Minh City in 2027, following the expansion of the Air Transport Agreement between Canada and Vietnam.

Mark Galardo, EVP & Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo, said Air Canada welcomes the expanded agreement and looks forward to obtaining the necessary government approvals to begin service to Ho Chi Minh City. 

“Vietnam is an important market in the broader Canada-Southeast Asia relationship,” said Galardo.

The announcement follows a state visit by Tô Lâm, General Secretary and President of Vietnam, and meetings in Ottawa between representatives of both countries.

Canada’s Federal International Trade Minister, Maninder Sidhu, said the expanded agreement will help strengthen trade and make it easier for people and goods to move between Canada and Vietnam. The Canada-ASEAN Business Council also welcomed Air Canada’s plans, saying direct service would support tourism, investment and stronger commercial ties between the two countries.

Air Canada’s proposed Ho Chi Minh City service remains subject to government approvals and completion of the necessary operating procedures in Vietnam.
