How air is becoming a competitive advantage for travel entrepreneurs

As travel continues to evolve, so does the role of the travel advisor, with more entrepreneurs looking for ways to deepen client relationships, increase efficiency and unlock new revenue streams.

For members of the Envoyage network, air is emerging as a powerful yet often underutilized part of that equation. “Air is often the foundation of the entire trip,” says Adam Taylor of Altitude Travel. “When you control the air, you control the full client experience.”

Backed by global air agreements, in-house contracts, and dedicated support, Envoyage members are increasingly bringing air back into their businesses and seeing measurable impact.

From Complexity to Confidence

Historically, air has been one of the most avoided areas of travel booking, often seen as complex and time-intensive.

“I know booking flights can be daunting, especially at the premium end,” says John Castell. “But if you immerse yourself in it, it becomes easier.” For Castell, that shift has been transformative. Today, air accounts for more than half of his business. “I could not yell from the rooftops any louder how big of a missed opportunity it is by not selling airfare,” he says.

Danny Jarvis shares a similar perspective: “If you’re not booking the flight, you’re not owning the trip. And if you’re not owning the trip, you risk losing the client.”

The Envoyage Advantage

A key differentiator for advisors is Envoyage’s access to Flight Centre Travel Group’s global air contracts, held in-house, which provides both control and consistency.

“The biggest benefit is control and reliability,” says Taylor. “We’re not dependent on third parties.” That control translates directly into better service and less friction when plans change. “When disruptions happen, I can act immediately,” says Taylor. “That’s a huge part of the value we bring.”

Castell adds: “Being able to rebook quickly and efficiently, that’s what clients remember.” In an environment where delays, cancellations and schedule changes are increasingly common, agility has become essential.

Support That Scales With You

Beyond contracts, advisors point to Envoyage’s air support team as a critical part of their success. “Having that level of support saves me so much time,” says Castell. “When things go wrong, you need to move quickly.”

For Jarvis, it’s about having expertise on demand: “Having experts in your corner when you need them, you can’t put a price on that.”

This combination of tools and support is enabling advisors to scale their businesses with confidence.

“Envoyage’s air agreements have allowed me to take on larger, more complex clients,” says Taylor.

Unlocking New Opportunities

With access to global inventory and competitive fares, advisors are also expanding the types of bookings they can take on. “I love being able to book flights that don’t even originate in Canada and still earn commission,” says Castell.

For many, it’s not just about adding air, it’s about elevating their role as a full-service advisor. “I’ve always believed in the ‘complete booking,’” says Jarvis. “That’s what makes you indispensable. If you’re not booking the flight, you’re not owning the trip.”

Looking Ahead

As more advisors reconsider their approach to air, the shift is clear: what was once seen as a challenge is now being recognized as an opportunity.

And within Envoyage, that shift is already well underway with members using air not just to support their business, but to strengthen it, scale it, and stand out in an increasingly competitive landscape.
