TORONTO — Iberia is set to launch a new direct route between Toronto and Madrid on June 13, expanding air connectivity between Canada and Spain while providing travellers with access to dozens of onward destinations across Europe.
The new service will operate five times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, offering more than 37,000 seats during the summer season.
The route forms part of Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030 growth strategy, which includes a €6 billion investment focused on fleet renewal and expansion, digitalization, customer experience enhancements and the addition of new destinations.
According to the airline, demand between Toronto and Madrid continues to grow, with nearly 70,000 passengers already travelling annually between the two cities.
“Toronto represents much more than a new route for Iberia. This connection allows us to reinforce Madrid’s role as one of the leading international hubs between the Americas and Europe, while offering Canadian travellers new opportunities to access our extensive network across Spain and Europe more efficiently,” said Juan Cierco, Corporate Director at Iberia.
EXPANDED CONNECTIVITY
The new service will give Toronto travellers access to Iberia’s extensive network through Madrid, including connections to 46 destinations across Spain and more than 60 destinations throughout Europe.
Passengers travelling through Madrid can also take advantage of Iberia’s Stopover Hola Madrid program, which allows travellers to spend up to nine nights in the Spanish capital at no additional airfare cost before continuing to their final destination.
The program includes a complimentary two-day public transportation tourist pass along with discounts on hotels, attractions, entertainment and shopping.
THE AIRBUS A321XLR
The Toronto-Madrid service will be operated by the Airbus A321XLR, the newest long-haul aircraft in Iberia’s fleet. Iberia became the first airline in the world to operate the aircraft commercially back in November 2024.
Configured with 182 seats across Business and Economy cabins, the aircraft features Airbus’ Airspace cabin design, including larger overhead bins, LED lighting and an updated cabin interior.
Iberia says the A321XLR delivers up to 40% fuel savings compared with traditional wide-body aircraft, allowing the carrier to operate transatlantic routes more efficiently while maintaining long-haul comfort standards.
