Launch carrier Porter gears up for June 15 opening of new terminal at Montreal’s MET

MONTREAL — Greater Montreal will welcome a new second gateway for commercial air travel this spring, with the opening of a new terminal at Montreal Metropolitan Airport (MET).

YHU Infrastructure Partners (YHU Terminal) and MET made the announcement today, ahead the new terminal’s official opening date, June 15.

Formerly known as Saint-Hubert Airport, with the site dating back to 1927, the gateway rebranded to MET a couple of years ago.

Once open the terminal will the host operations of Porter Airlines and Pascan Aviation. The terminal will also be able to welcome additional carriers in the future.

The new terminal at MET aims to become the airport of choice for direct flights operated exclusively using quieter, more fuel-efficient single-aisle aircrafts, said Yanic Roy, MET’s President and CEO. “For Greater Montreal passengers, the opening of the terminal at MET will offer more options for travellers and allow airlines to take advantage of greater airport capacity in the metropolitan region,” said Roy.

Covering 21,000 square metres, the terminal features nine boarding bridges and a spacious waiting lounge with 900 seats.

“We are not simply building an airport terminal; we’re redefining the way people travel in Montreal,” says Charles Roberge, President and CEO of YHU Terminal.

MET is located 15 km from downtown Montreal, and accessible via an extensive road network and the METbus express shuttle which provides connections between the Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke metro station and the airport terminal.

MET’S LAUNCH CARRIER: PORTER AIRLINES

Porter Airlines will be the launch carrier at the revitalized MET. Service begins on June 15, with 12 routes being introduced across Canada.

“The new MET terminal development represents an exceptional private investment in transportation infrastructure that Greater Montreal will benefit from for generations. Porter is bringing a wide range of flight options to the airport, along with a genuine commitment to the community. Our philosophy is to treat everyone with care and this is perfectly complemented by the overall travel experience passengers will enjoy at MET. We are eager to begin this journey with an unprecedented amount of new service,” said Michael Deluce, CEO, Porter Airlines.

Porter’s inaugural MET flight schedule puts Montreal at the centre of a cross-country network. Here’s a look at the new routes …
