Cross-border travel from Canada to U.S. down 31% by car, 19% by air

TORONTO —Statistics Canada has released its cross-border travel data for December 2025.

According to StatCan, for the month of December 2025, Canadian-resident return trips by air from the U.S. were down 18.7% year over year, to 470,700.

Canadian-resident return trips from overseas countries continued to trend up, by 10.4% for a total of 1.1 million, compared to December 2024.

CANADA-TO-USA CAR TRAVEL DROPS 30.7%

Last month’s 18.7% decline in air travel from Canada to the U.S. is eclipsed by the decline in Canada-to-U.S. automobile traffic.

Canadian-resident return trips by automobile dropped 30.7% YOY in December 2025, to 1.3 million. It’s the 12th consecutive month of year-over-year declines.
