MONTREAL — With a prime location in the heart of Europe, the city of Vienna has everything to please visitors: 100+ museums, magnificent concert halls and excellent restaurants.
That’s what the Vienna Tourist Board and its partners aim to showcase over the next week with a Canadian sales mission, kicking off yesterday in Montreal before heading to Toronto on Oct. 9, and Vancouver on Oct. 14.
“The slogan of the Vienna Tourist Office this year is ‘Viennese Delights: Cuisine, Culture, and Character’,” said Florian Wiesinger, who heads up B2B Marketing Communications for the Vienna Tourist Board.
“We’re targeting a cultural, business or conference-oriented clientele, one that blends well with our city’s residents,” he continued. “This coexistence is important to us and to the Viennese in general. The city truly stands out thanks to its cafés – which we believe are the most beautiful in the world – and its rich culinary scene, which is dynamic and creative. Dining out and then attending a classical music concert in Vienna is a unique experience!”

AN AUTUMN CULTURAL IMMERSION
The cultural offerings are especially abundant this fall in this former imperial capital, once home to Beethoven, Johann Strauss (father and son), and Gustav Klimt.
Speaking of Klimt, a new exhibition will open in November 2026 at the Lobkowitz Palace focusing on Klimt’s famous painting Nuda Veritas, and also on Vienna of the early 20th century, the city that saw the birth of this great master.
Markus Kustatscher, Tourism Manager at Kunsthistorisches Museum, noted that in addition to the Klimt exhibition there is a retrospective of Michaelina Wautier, a little-known 17th-century painter who is truly worth discovering. That exhibition runs until February 2026.
Visitors to the city can also admire masterpieces from the Habsburg imperial collections, showcased in several of Vienna’s museums and featuring some of the greatest European painters of past centuries, including Bruegel, Rubens, Raphael and Caravaggio.
A CITY AT THE HEART OF THE CONTINENT
One of Vienna’s biggest advantages is its easy accessibility from Canada.

Vienna Airport’s Eszter Almási
From Toronto, Air Canada offers five direct flights to Vienna in winter and daily service in summer. There are also six direct Air Canada flights from Montreal to Vienna in summer, and three in winter.
“Vienna has the largest airport in Central Europe, with connections to all the continent’s major cities,” said Vienna Airport’s Eszter Almási.
“A train will take you from the airport to downtown in exactly 16 minutes, which is very convenient. It’s also one of the three most punctual airports on the continent,” she added proudly. Due to the airport’s growing popularity, an extension of Terminal 3 is planned for 2027, increasing its capacity.
Vienna’s geographic location is also ideal for adding one or two more cities to the itinerary. No fewer than five European capitals – Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Zagreb and Ljubljana – can all be reached in less than four hours by car or train from the City of Music.
“The rail system is very efficient in Austria,” added Almási. “In just over two hours, you can be in Mozart’s hometown, Salzburg, and in just over four hours, you can go hiking or skiing in Innsbruck, in the Alps.”
