New Hotels, Restorations, and Expansions Redefine Accommodation Options in Victoria

The accommodation supply in Greater Victoria is expanding to meet growing demand. A new 167-room, eight-storey, Hyatt Centric hotel on Broad Street is under development, with a projected opening in 2028. The project incorporates restoration of the historic Duck’s Building into the hotel and retail space. In addition, a working group is being assembled, to foster a collaborative approach to harnessing the opportunity of hotel development in Greater Victoria. Destination Greater Victoria’s 10-year Destination Plan identified the region could benefit from the addition of 2,000 new hotel rooms over the next 10 years.

Existing properties are also demonstrating their commitment to enhancing Victoria’s accommodation landscape through major renovations and upgrades. The iconic Fairmont Empress (recognized as the #1 Canadian City Hotel in Travel + Leisure’s 2025 World’s Best Awards and named a top Western Canadian Hotel in the 2024 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards) underwent a $60+ million restoration completed in 2017. This transformation has elevated the hotel into an elegant must-visit destination where modern luxury is seamlessly blended with timeless charm. In 2023, the Empress introduced a reimagined Fairmont Gold Experience, featuring 88 thoughtfully appointed Fairmont Gold rooms, a newly renovated lounge, and an exclusive outdoor terrace set against beautifully manicured landscapes.

Victoria also welcomes new additions such as Rosemead House, a significant restoration of Esquimalt’s Old English Inn set to reopen as a full-service luxury hotel in October 2025. Originally designed by renowned architect Samuel Macclure, the historic property now offers 28 unique guest rooms and suites, as well as distinguished amenities including the Janevca Kitchen and Lounge, which opened to the public in October 2024, and the Salt and Ivy Spa coming Fall 2025. This revitalization further enhances the region’s selection of distinctive accommodations.
