WestJet refreshes cabins with new seating, upgraded amenities

WestJet is investing in a major refresh of its formerly economy-only aircraft, unveiling a reconfigured cabin that introduces Premium seating, expands Extended Comfort options and brings a consistent look and feel across its fleet.

The redesign focuses on modern comfort, with brighter interiors and upgraded seating. Economy travellers will find adjustable headrests, improved cushion and back support, personal device holders, in-seat power and redesigned lavatories and galleys.

“The cabin has been thoughtfully designed to offer WestJet’s welcoming service at every budget,” said Samantha Taylor, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer. “It reflects our commitment to elevating every aspect of the travel experience and meeting guest demand for a broader range of product offerings.”

PREIMUM & EXTENDED COMFORT

The refreshed Premium cabin will feature 12 new seats identical to those in the airline’s 787-9 Dreamliner fleet, with reclining seat backs, contoured cushions and four-way adjustable headrests.

Behind Premium, the expanded Extended Comfort section will include 36 seats with extra legroom, separated from Economy by a cabin divider. Economy travellers will still have the option of exit row seats for maximum legroom. Standard Economy seating has also been redesigned with contoured backs to maximize space and ergonomically shaped cushions for added comfort.

WestJet has also added an extra row of ultra slim-line seats compared to its prior layouts, increasing overall capacity while maintaining comfort. The move aligns with the airline’s focus on affordability, helping reduce cost per seat while giving travellers more choice.

“WestJet has always been a pioneer in making air travel available to Canadians, largely through keeping costs low to offer affordable airfares,” said Taylor. “The layout for our refreshed cabin caters to our guests’ diverse preferences. Whether they opt for Premium seating with extra amenities and legroom or for more affordable ticket prices with less space, we’re excited to introduce this range of products for our guests to enjoy.”

WestJet Rewards members and employees helped select and test seating options in January 2023, providing feedback that influenced the final design. A full prototype was trialled in the summer of 2025 to ensure training and rollout were ready ahead of launch.

WI-FI ROLLOUT

Complementing the cabin refresh is the installation of WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS. The high-speed, low-latency system provides the same streaming-level speeds in the air as on the ground. Free for WestJet Rewards members, WestJet Wi-Fi is being installed across the fleet and is expected to be available on all Boeing 737-800 and MAX-8 aircraft by the end of 2025.
