Viking floats out newest ocean ship, Viking Mira

LOS ANGELES — Viking has celebrated a key construction milestone with the float out of its newest ocean ship, Viking Mira.

Scheduled to debut in spring 2026, the 998-guest vessel officially touched water for the first time on July 31, 2025, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy, marking the beginning of its final stage of construction.

“In our view, together with Fincantieri we have created the world’s most elegant fleet of small ocean ships – and the float out of the Viking Mira marks yet another important milestone as we continue to grow our fleet,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “As we prepare to welcome her in 2026, we are proud to offer even more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort.”

Viking Mira will join Viking’s fleet of small ocean ships, all classified under 100,000 gross tons. At 54,300 gross tons, the ship will offer 499 staterooms and accommodate up to 998 guests. Upon entering service next spring, it will sail a mix of itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

The float out began with a traditional ceremony during which a cord was cut to allow water to flood the ship’s dry dock. The process of setting the ship afloat takes two days, after which Viking Mira will be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for interior build-out and final touches.
