Meliá starts a new chapter in Cuba, with resort updates revealed at FITCUBA

HAVANA — Meliá Hotels International continues to boost its presence in Cuba, with new details about four resort projects unveiled during last week’s FITCUBA in Havana.

The group’s Vice President and CEO, Gabriel Escarrer, announced the new projects for the company, which is now the leading hotel chain in Cuba and throughout the Caribbean.

“We have no doubt that Cuba will recover to pre-crisis levels and will be in a better state than ever before,” said Escarrer. “For this reason, it is essential for us to continue improving our portfolio of hotels on the island, promoting new quality experiences in line with an increasingly demanding demand.”

At the end of 2022, Cuba had welcomed 4.5 times more international visitors than in 2021. Over 3.5 million are expected to visit in 2023.

MELIA TRINIDAD PENINSULA

Meliá Trinidad Peninsula will open next autumn, the first five-star hotel in the colonial town of Trinidad, declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The property is described as a faithful reflection of Meliá’s commitment to the creation of state-of-the-art luxury hotels.

Located a few minutes from the city and Topes de Collantes park, the hotel is the ideal starting point for guests hoping to discover one of Cuba’s most charming regions. It extends to the foot of Maria Aguilar Beach, on the Ancon Peninsula, with spectacular views of the Caribbean waters and the Escambray Mountains.

Meliá Trinidad Peninsula has 400+ modern rooms, some with direct pool access. The resort is positioned as a great choice for families and couples, groups and weddings, and more. The Level area is Meliá Hotels & Resorts’ VIP concept.

SOL CARIBE BEACH

Sol Caribe Beach is Meliá’s new hotel in Varadero, which has also just opened its doors.

Located on the seafront and with easy access to the urban centre and shopping hubs, this hotel is especially designed for families. The hotel’s lively entertainment program includes themed shows, educational games, competitions, dance classes and plenty of sports activities on the beach. The hotel is also just 5 km from Varadero Golf Club, with its 18-hole golf course.

MORE PROJECTS

Escarrer announced four further projects for Cuba, that will begin this year as part of the company’s portfolio.

The first is INNSiDE Habana Catedral, a brand new 50-room hotel that brings INNSIDE by Meliá to the capital. This is one of the group’s lifestyle brands. The hotel, located in the central Cathedral Square, aims to connect the tourist community with the city.

The second project is the well-known Hotel Plaza in Havana, with 188 rooms. The iconic hotel, which first opened in 1909, is famous for its neoclassical architecture and its triangular floor plan. It will join the exclusive Meliá Collection portfolio, the group’s newest luxury brand, including the company’s most unique and charismatic hotels.

Also in Havana, the company will take over the management of the historic Hotel Sevilla, located by the Paseo del Prado. This 178-room property, a symbol of the heritage city, joins the Affiliated by Meliá network.

And in Holguín, Meliá will manage the 531-room Sol Turquesa Beach hotel. Its design simulates a late 19th century Spanish ranch, and its waterfall pools offer a unique experience.
