“A spectacular day”: ACTA golf tournament is a big success

MILTON — Camaraderie, connections and, of course, a day on the links were all part of yesterday’s ACTA golf tournament and advocacy fundraiser at the Royal Ontario Golf Club in Milton, ON.

The tournament took place under beautiful blue skies with ideal conditions for golf – and for renewing much-missed industry friendships.

“We had a spectacular day with perfect weather. Just to be able to see everybody and spend time with everybody made it that much more special,” said Lindsay Pearlman, Senior VP with Travel Leaders Group. “It’s great to be back on track with things. I know the new normal will be different, but it’s just great being on the other side of this.”

Pearlman added: “We desperately need an advocacy arm in our industry and ACTA not only does it but has been doing it exceptionally well. It’s been fantastic. And I think that’s been really highlighted more so over the last three years than anytime before.”

The sold-out event, with more than 150 golfers and 200 for dinner, kicked off at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Title Sponsor was Air Canada, with Major Sponsors Manulife and Globus family of brands. Golf Destination Sponsor was the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority.

Among the winners were …

Top Men’s

Patrick Doyle, American Express

Paul Georgopoulos, American Express

Ian Dale, Enterprise Holdings

Matt Bruyn, Enterprise Holdings

Top Women’s

Shelley Kopys, Manulife

Lynne Wheeler,  Selloffvacations.com

Michelle Roelofs, Selloffvacations.com

Carol Reid, Manulife

“We couldn’t ask for a better day,” said Marco Pozzobon, ACTA’s Director, Marketing Communications & Partnerships. “The weather was perfect. And the hole sponsors did a great job of keeping everyone hydrated with refreshments. It’s wonderful to have industry colleagues and friends back together again, enjoying themselves and connecting about the travel industry.”

Carla Brake, Globus family of brands’ Director, Key Accounts & Inside Sales, led the applause for ACTA for its tireless advocacy work over the past 2+ years of the pandemic. “I think everyone can agree, ACTAs deserves a big round of applause for all the hard work they’ve done on the industries behalf over these past few trying years,” said Brake.

“I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m tired of the walls of my house, so it’s great to be back with everyone and enjoy the company of our industry family,” she added.
