WHITEHORSE – Yukon has seen steady growth in visitor numbers, especially from the rest of Canada, over the past decade – a trend the territorial government wants to build upon with a new marketing push.
A joint federal-Yukon initiative will increase Yukon’s tourism marketing budget by $3.6 million over two years.
It is “the single largest investment in tourism marketing in the Yukon government’s history,” Yukon Tourism Minister Mike Nixon said.
The effort to promote the territory as a must-see destination will include TV commercials broadcast in other parts of the country.
The number of tourists to Yukon has climbed about three per cent a year since 2004, an increase led by Canadian visitors. There’s “potential for even more growth in the coming years,” Nixon said.
