“A travesty”: Industry feedback as tensions mount over Comp Fund review process

TICO approves over two dozen claims totalling over $70,000

MISSISSAUGA — TICO has approved 26 claims against the Ontario Travel Compensation Fund, totalling $70,056.

According to TICO, the approved claims will assist 46 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid.

The approved claims are as follows:

  • Fly Jamaica Airways: 5 claims to assist 6 consumers, totalling $4,737
  • Jet Airways: 5 claims to assist 6 consumers, totalling $4,049
  • Sunmed Holidays Inc.: 16 claims to assist 34 consumers, totalling $61,271

The Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund, administered by TICO, is wholly financed by the industry to protect consumer who do not receive the travel services they have paid for, due to the insolvency or bankruptcy of an Ontario-registered travel agent or travel wholesaler, or due to the cessation of an end supplier airline or cruise line. The Fund only covers consumers who have booked through an Ontario-registered travel agent.
