TORONTO — Following on the heels of its April 2016 announcement that the official short-form name for the Czech Republic would be ‘Czechia’, yesterday Czechia was published as the official English-language short-form name at the United Nations.
The Czech Republic name has been around since 1993, when Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The Czechia short-form was approved by the country’s cabinet in May 2016.
