TORONTO — Like much of Canada right now, Winnipeg is in a deep freeze. Today’s high in the Manitoba capital? Minus 19 degrees.
So it’s no wonder that travel advisor – and contest winner – Han Pham with Winnipeg’s Sarbit Travel Agency & Insurance is very much looking forward to her prize stay at Iberostar Selection Playa Mita in Mexico (where it’s a sunny and warm 26 degrees).
Iberostar’s contest, which ran Dec. 15 through Jan. 25 for Travelweek Daily and Travelweek readers, offered up a getaway for two at the Punta Mita all-inclusive, in Riviera Nayarit.

The five-star Pacific coast resort showcases the heritage of Mexico’s ancient Huichol and Cora tribes. The property has a tranquil spa with treatments inspired by ancestral traditions, dining on international dishes and authentic Mexican cuisine made with fresh, regional ingredients, Star Camp for the kids, optional activities and excursions including the ‘Magic Village’ of Sayulita, Monkey Mountain, the Marieta Islands and more. Guests can also watch for humpback whales and dolphins. In keeping with Iberostar’s commitment to responsible tourism, the hotel is free of single-use plastics.
Says Pham: “I’m most excited to experience Iberostar Selection Playa Mita firsthand, especially the Pacific coast setting, which many of my clients are curious about. I’m looking forward to seeing the resort’s atmosphere, food and service so I can confidently recommend it to future clients. Experiencing the destination personally helps me better understand who it’s best suited for – whether families, couples, or travellers looking for something a bit different from the Caribbean side of Mexico.”
From Winnipeg, Pham’s clients are primarily looking for easy, direct flights, good value, and stress-free all-inclusive experiences, she tells Travelweek. “Mexico continues to be a top choice, especially Riviera Maya, Cancun, and now the Pacific coast, because of reliable service and resort quality. Families are looking for family-friendly resorts with kids’ clubs, while couples and honeymooners prefer adults-only or more upscale, quieter properties. Overall, clients want a balance of comfort, good food, nice beaches and experiences that feel worth the trip, especially after being more selective with travel in recent years.”
Pham adds that Iberostar is a brand her clients trust for consistent quality and good value. “Properties in Riviera Maya are especially popular because they cater well to families, couples, and groups, with beautiful grounds and strong dining options. Clients also appreciate Iberostar’s focus on sustainability and service, which is something more travellers are asking about now. The brand offers different levels, so it’s easy to match the right resort to each client’s needs and budget.”
Pham has worked in the travel industry since 2015. She tells Travelweek: “This win truly means so much to me. Travel has always been more than just a job; it’s something I genuinely love, and moments like this remind me why I chose this path. Thank you so much to Travelweek and Iberostar Resorts for this amazing gift and for always supporting travel agents. I’m beyond grateful and so excited to experience it.”
