French air traffic controllers to strike tomorrow, flight disruptions expected

French air traffic controllers strike again; causes flight cancellations across Europe

PARIS – There are more headaches in store for travellers in France, thanks to another labour dispute with French air traffic controllers.

For the third time in a month, air traffic controllers have gone on strike, which has resulted in the cancellation of 20% of all flights at Paris’ Orly Airport. In addition, several delays at Charles De Gaulle have been reported on the Paris airport authority website on Thursday.

According to TravelMole, British Airways said that in addition to cancelling some flights to and from France, other short-haul flights using French air space might also be disrupted by the action, which began last night. A spokesperson said that the airline will use larger aircraft to help affected customers.

Ryanair has cancelled more than 100 flights across Europe today, including a few between the U.K., France and Spain. EasyJet also said some of its flights may be affected by the strike.

Passengers are advised to check with their airlines prior to travelling to the airport.

France has seen a series of strikes and protests against the labour reform bill, which is aimed at encouraging companies to hire. Critics on the French left say the reforms will compromise France’s hard-won worker protections without curbing the country’s high unemployment rate.
