5 ways to ramp up your image: Professionalism is key to success

I was lucky enough to attend the Virtuoso Forum last month in California, and one of the speakers pointed out that we now all work in the largest industry in the world. Remarkable! But as he also pointed out, this means professional work habits and behaviour are even more important.

I can’t think of a higher compliment for a travel advisor than “she (or he) is a true professional”. But what does that mean – particularly if you are new to the business?

Here are five ways you can be a true pro in dealing with your suppliers:

Support your preferred suppliers

1) Support your preferred suppliers. Selling another supplier here or there may not seem like a lot to you but you have a professional (and I think moral) duty to support those suppliers with whom your host agency has negotiated preferred status. You will shine in your host agency’s eyes (as you help meet sales targets), the supplier’s eyes – and your clients, as I am sure they are all quality suppliers.
