Life in the fast lane: Liverpool debuts fast walking lanes

LIVERPOOL – Step aside, people, coming through! To fast walkers, there’s nothing more annoying than trying to maneuver your way around slow-moving crowds. But now, one city in Britain is giving these harried strollers the chance to finally ‘be free’ by opening the country’s first-ever pedestrian lane.

Following research that found that 47% of the nation finds slow walking the most annoying aspect of high-street shopping, the new fast lanes have debuted in Liverpool city centre on St John Street. Reserved for those in a rush to get from Point A to Point B, the lanes allow users to speed through the crowds while perusing the three-storey Liverpool One shopping centre, reports The Independent.

According to the research, which was conducted by Argos, shoppers also said they despised people chatting in the middle of the street as well as ‘pavement hoggers.’

But not everyone is down with the idea. While 69% of 16- to 24-year-olds surveyed were in favour of fast lanes, only 37% of those over 55 years old expressed their support.
